The type series of Acanthosaura fruhstorferi and Calotes brevipes are redescribed, lectotypes for both species are designated. A. fruhstorferi Werner, 1904 is synonymous with A. lepidogaster Cuvier, 1829. Calotes brevipes is placed in the genus Pseudocalotes. A taxonomic synopsis is presented. A key to the agamid genera Acanthosaura, Bronchocela, Calotes, Pseudocalotes and Dendragama is given.
