ResumoThe carcinostatic and pharmacological properties of a new cytotoxic agent, 2,4-dinitro-5-ethyleneiminobenzamide (CB 1954) have been investigated. CB 1954 exhibits a highly specific inhibitory effect on the growth of the Walker rat carcinoma 256. Lesser activity is shown against the Novikoff hepatoma and the primary benzpyrene tumour. The compound has little or no activity against the rat Yoshida sarcoma or the ADJ/PC6A mouse plasma cell tumour, the growth of which is considerably inhibited by difunctional alkylating agents of the nitrogen mustard gas type. The effects on the haematopoietic system are not unduly severe and the pathological effects at the minimum toxic dose are manifest in the liver and urinary tract.
