Resumo

An attempt has been made to identify the vasopressins in individual pituitaries of the collared peccary (Tayassu angulatus) and the warthog (Phacochoerus aethiopicus). Of 11 peccary pituitaries 9 contained arginine vasopressin (AVP) only, of the remainder one contained both AVP and lysine vasopressin (LVP) and the other contained AVP and probably also LVP. Eighteen warthog pituitaries were examined; 8 contained AVP only, 2 contained LVP only and 8 were heterozygous. The number of phenotypes calculated from the observed gene frequencies, corresponded to those predicted by the Hardy-Weinberg formula.
