Only small numbers of human infections have been documented in the United States, but endemic areas exist in South America, Africa, and the Middle East (1). Many self-limited infections probably go undetected in this country.We have seen an immunosuppressed patient in which severe, chronic diarrhea was associated with Isospora belli infection. Although unresponsive to many treatments, the diarrhea and infection resolved promptly with treatment with co-trimoxazole.A previously healthy 24-year-old woman developed fever, fatigueand purpuric skin lesions in October 1975 and was found to have...References1.
