Resumo

Radiometric measurements of the precipitable water vapor content (PWV) above Pico Veleta, Sierra Nevada, Spain, are presented. The study includes measurements carried out on 180 days and 118 nights during the years 1984 through 1987. Average annual values of daytime and nighttime PWV of 3.7 mm and 2.1 mm, respectively, are found; the annual average PWV is 2.9 mm. These results are similar to those reported for Mauna Kea and qualify Pico Veleta as a potential good place for infrared and submillimeter astronomical observations.
