ResumoWrightia tinctoria L. leaf hexane, methanol, chloroform, ethyl acetate and water extracts were screened against plant pathogenic bacteria by in vitro. The extracts were tested using disc diffusion method and minimum inhibitory concentration. Ethyl acetate and methanol extracts showed significant antibacterial activity against gram negative bacteria; the MIC was 50 μg/ml for Xanthomonas campestris and Erwina sp. Study shows Wrightia tinctoria leaves possessed potent antimicrobial properties against plant pathogenic bacteria suggesting that the active principles may be useful in the control of plant disease.
