Resumo

The laboratory rearing and biology of Stenolophus comma (F.) and S. lecontei (Chaudoir) (Carabidae) are described. The influence of temperature on oviposition, egg hatch, larval development and adult longevity was determined. Both species are primarily carnivorous but will feed on nonanimal food when animal food is not available. Feeding on corn seed in the field is influenced to a great extent by climatic conditions. Flight activity is based on temperature, with 20°, the minimum air threshold. Seasonal distribution and ovarian development of both species were monitored over 4 years.
