Resumo

1. Four structures considered to function as proprioceptors were located in the pereiopod of Ligia oceanica by using histological techniques. The cells were single or in pairs and measured between 20 and 40 μ in diameter. 2. These organs, although simpler in structure, were found to have the same basic characteristics as those occurring in decapods, namely a unidirectional sensitivity, some units being position sensitive, others movement sensitive. 3. Their structure and function are compared with such organs in higher crustacea.
