ResumoSuccess of the High School Diploma : French People and Foreigners in the Ile-de-France Smaïn LAACHER and Alain LENFANT Since the late 70's, monographies try to catch the school failure conditions of foreign children. More recently, the political and also the sociological looking has been shifting; the attention is more and more dedicated to what is called school success. The exemple exist, generating more ideological interpretations than objectivity. Is it possible to go over the culturalist talking turning immigration into something strongly ethnic or over a teleological vision of the "migrant"? This paper shows, using original datas, the difficulty, as soon as one goes over the monographic stage, to present precisely facts able to quantify statistical distribution and differences of school trajectories according to the national status, particularly at the special time at the fundamental stage of the school degree courses what is the high school diploma. Not only the decisive informations are lacking but the categories used, as the foreign condition for instance, give problems without solutions. For all that, the ideas of the size are sociologically significant and contribute towards considering through a new point of view, a serie of differences and similarities generally accepted.
