Three menthols, (+)- and (−)-neomenthols and (+)-isomenthol were biotransformed by Aspergillus niger which converted nonspecifically (−)- and (+)-neomenthols to more hydroxylated compounds, whereas, (+)-isomenthol was smoothly converted into 1-hydroxyisomenthol and 6-hydroxyisomenthol by the same fungus.
