ResumoThe effect of doxycycline and minocycline on moderate to moderately severe acne vulgaris was compared in a double-blind, double-dummy, randomized study. Sixty-four acne patients were treated for 12 weeks with doxycycline or minocycline, 50 mg twice daily for the first 4 weeks and then 50 mg once daily for the remaining 8 weeks. The patients' acne was evaluated before and after 4, 8 and 12 weeks of treatment. Acne lesions were counted on the face, the chest and the back, differentiating between pustules, papules, open comedones and closed comedones. A significant reduction of all types of acne lesions was observed in all areas during the 12 weeks of treatment for both groups. Doxycycline and minocycline were found to be equally effective in the treatment of moderate to moderately severe acne vulgaris.
