Abstract A sample of 255 Sab to Scd spiral galaxies have precise BT0 magnitudes and 21 cm line widths is used to investigate the apparent increase of the Hubble constant with respect to the kinematic distances, based on the application of the B-band Tully-Fisher relation with slope of 5 and an infall model, reported in an earlier paper. The conclusions are: (1) If the dispersion of the B-band Tully-Fisher relation is only σ = 0.55 mag, the contribution of the Malmquist bias is about 0.45 mag and can explain one-third of the effect. (2) It seems a priori possible to remove the increase of H0 by using a slope of 7 based on the calibration of Sandage and Tammann, but contradictory results are obtained. (3) Most of the objects with small log H0 at small velocity are located in the Canes Venatici or Leo Minor clouds; an anomaly of the velocity field at the position of these clouds can be suggested. (4) The problem of the increase of the Hubble ratios with respect to the Hubble moduli is also raised with data on more distant clusters.
