With the concept of narrative identity formulated by Paul Ricoeur as a starting point, this article presents the character Z, of "Displacements" ["Deslocamentos", in Sabedoria do Nunca], a short story by Juliano Pessanha.The objective is to show how this narrative displays an exemplary case of what Ricoeur defi nes as identity-ipse, or "ipseism".This would enable us to analyze a new form of subjectivity, characteristic of the contemporary scenery.
