ResumoFisheries species in the Gulf between Kuwait and Qatar were sampled during the R/V Mt Mitchell expedition during a 10-day period in late April-early May 1992. A total of 790 individuals comprising 45 species were recorded. The highest number of fish, comprising more than 40%, were found at station A (Jun al Kuwait), followed by 18% at station D (Manifa, Saudi Arabia), 15% at station E (Abu Ali, north), and 11% at station F (Bahrain/Qatar). The most dominant fish species were the slipmouth (Leiognathus fasciatus), the pigface bream (Lethrinus kallopterus) and the therapon (Therapon puta), comprising 27.4%, 11.5% and 11.4% of the total, respectively. The length to weight relationship of the Lethrinus kallopterus was studied and found to be linear.
