The paper presents the results of the theoretical and experimental studies of the four-point field coherence function o 4 of a wave propagating in a turbulent medium. On the basis of the asymptotic method, expressions for the complex value of o 4 in the region of strong intensity fluctuations are obtained. The theoretical and experimental results for the real and imaginary parts of o 4 and for different configurations of receiving points are compared.
