Stellate spontaneous pseudoscars are a long-neglected phenomenon of senile skin; they are quite frequent, as they are seen in 20% of patients above 70 years of age and begin to appear after the age of 60 years. The histological appearance is stereotyped and contrasts with the surrounding atrophied skin. Bateman's purpura often occurs on the same skin. One occasionally sees the same lesions in younger subjects. Various additional causal factors can be responsible for these presenile forms; the most common of these is prolonged corticosteroid therapy.
