ResumoThough he is best known for his innovations in deaf education, T. H. Gallaudet also contributed insights and ideas to the study of language and communication. An investigation of his writing in this field indicates that some of his ideas about sign language have been misunderstood or overlooked and that in several instances he anticipated the work of 20th-century linguists, anthropologists, and rhetoricians.
