ResumoA thin film multi-track head which has a density of 267 TPI and 37 tracks has been developed. It has a substrate of Ni-Zn ferrite, five-turn signal lines in two layers and a one-turn bias line in a groove common to all tracks. The isolated pole piece is composed of Sendust-sputtered film which has good magnetic properties. High-temperature glass bonding between the head and the guard substrate has markedly improved reliability. Recording and crosstalk characteristics of this new head were studied using Co-γ oxide tape and high coercivity metal particle tape to determine the applicability of this head to a digital audio tape system.
