ResumoHall-Petch strengthening has been observed for the microhardness of electrodeposited nickel material extending to a finest grain diameter of approximately 12 nm. A microhardness value of approximately 7 kN/mm2 (700 kg/mm2) is obtained at this smallest grain size. Estimated Hall-Petch friction stress and stress intensity values for the flow stress at δ = 0.075 compare reasonably well with theoretical model calculations and with previously reported tensile stress-strain measurements on related material specimens.
