Resumo

The experimental conditions are described which lead to the formation of chromium hydroxide sols of narrow size distributions. This can be accomplished by aging of chromium salt solutions at elevated temperatures in the presence of sulfate or phosphate ions. The stability of the sols so prepared was studied in the presence of various electrolytes. The sols as originally prepared are positively charged but can be recharged by addition of base. The size distribution of the stable negatively charged sols so obtained remained the same as it was for the original sol. Light scattering analysis was utilized in the determination of particle size distributions.
