ResumoThe first time I came across Shane Meadows’ work was in 1998, in a small cinema in Exeter. Twenty Four Seven was on its modest premiere run and I dragged a load of fellow students from the university to the Picturehouse on Bartholomew Street to see it. Their reactions were positive, but to me, it was a revelation. My hometown of Nottingham was plastered all over the screen and, alongside Bob Hoskins, there were cameo appearances from people and places I knew. I felt a dual gush of civic pride and homesickness. Fifteen years later I believe that I’ve done more published interviews with Shane Meadows and his cast than any other writer. This is mainly due to the fact that for the last decade I have edited the Nottingham-based arts magazine LeftLion. Shane’s work and cast are part of the cultural fabric of the patch I cover and, as he admits, his career was born in the city. This dossier of interviews includes two with Shane Meadows conducted at different stages of his career, one with Vicky McClure and another with Thomas Turgoose. The oldest is from 2004, the most recent from 2013. Gathered together, they provide fascinating insights into the inner workings of ‘Shane’s world’ over the last ten years as told by the director himself and two key collaborators.
