Resumo

Talent is one of the most important intangible assets of companies. However, although there exist a growing interest among companies on the best way to manage talent, practical models about how to manage talent are virtually nonexistent. This paper draws upon the analysis of cases on how two of the major football clubs in the world manage talent: FC Barcelona and Real Madrid CF. Thus, we show two generic prescriptive models that can serve as a reference for talent management in the firm: the first is the model of internal development of talent and the second is the model of external capture of talent. The lessons from the analysis of these two cases will unveil implications of each of the models, and will eventually demonstrate that both models are effective from the point of view of the company performance. However, the model of internal talent development of talent has a greater impact from Human Resource Management implications.
