ResumoA bstract : A case of the rare tumor, rhabdomyosarcoma of the left atrium of the heart, is presented. The patient was a 63‐year‐old man whose chief complaint was weakness and shortness of breath, believed to be due to chronic pulmonary emphysema with fibrosis (confirmed at autopsy). He was recovering from an attack of congestive heart failure with pneumonitis (after therapy, the heart size was normal and the lungs were clear), when he died suddenly. The cardiac tumor was unsuspected until it was revealed at autopsy. This diagnosis should be kept in mind, particularly in cases with symptoms resembling those of mitral stenosis. The reporting of such cases may help in the diagnosis of other primary cardiac tumors early enough for corrective surgery.
