Resumo

A microfabricated gas turbine engine is currently under development at MIT. As compared to conventionally fabricated large scale engines, the aerothermal design of a microengine will be quite different not only due to small scale effects, but also due to constraints associated with available microfabrication tools and materials. This paper characterizes the major aerothermal differences between small and large scale gas turbine engines, and identifies where these differences result in new technical challenges. The current design of the MIT baseline microengine is used to quantify these issues.
