Resumo

AGENESIS of the mandible may be congenital or acquired and of these the latter will be discussed first. In these cases a short ascending ramus is caused either by trauma to, or infection involving, the condylar head in early childhood.Whatever the cause the treatment must be to lengthen the ramus. THE ACQUIRED CASEThe Operation.--Theincision is made just below the proposed new site of the angle of the mandible and the platysma divided. When the cervical branch of the seventh nerve has been located, the masseter and periosteum is stripped from the outer surface of the ramus, and with more difficulty the internal pterygoid and periosteum from the inner surface.A template provided by the orthodontist
