Resumoβ-ecdysone 2-hemisuccinate was conjugated to thyroglobulin yielding 166 haptens per molecule of protein. The antiserum raised against this conjugate had a strong binding affinity for β-ecdysone and displayed reduced affinity for β-ecdysone analogs with altered hydroxyl functions along the sidechain. One exception was α-ecdysone which competed more effectively than β-ecdysone for antibody binding sites. Antiserum sensitivity toward these two hormones varied over a fifteen week interval. This antiserum and two others were used to estimate the concentration of β-ecdysone in crab hemolymph.
