Resumo

As we close the 2011 volume of Epilepsia, we’d like to thank our readers and authors for your continued support. Your interest in the Journal is reflected in the steady stream of submissions (close to 1,000 this year), broad participation in manuscript reviews (over 800 individuals), and a continued high Impact Factor (again near 4—by far the highest of all the epilepsy specialty journals). This support is especially important against the background pressures of new online journals, declining sponsorship from commercial sources, and increasing selectivity by institutions in their journal subscription choices. We believe that Epilepsia continues to publish the best in epilepsy research—and is therefore sound both scientifically and financially. It is the proud flagship of the International League Against Epilepsy. The Editors-in-Chief traditionally take this end-of-the-year opportunity to thank the many individuals who make it possible to publish high quality research in Epilepsia. We again express our appreciation particularly to our team of Associate Editors. It has been a real pleasure to work with these individuals—most of whom have been with us for several years—who provide expertise in various aspects of the epilepsy field, and whose judgment provides the basis for most of our editorial decisions. We would also like to express our thanks to the Epilepsia production team, both at home and in the Wiley-Blackwell office. In particular, Laurie Beninsig has provided outstanding support as Managing Editor and Liz Mobayed has generated exciting covers each month. The Wiley-Blackwell staff—Alison Labbate (Publisher), Cathy Krendel (Editor), Brian Coughlin (Production Editor), and Chris Coia (Supplements Editor)—have supported Epilepsia with the professionalism that is key to presenting a high-quality journal to our readers. In the September 2011 issue, we described some of the changes and initiatives that have appeared in Epilepsia this year, including a new smartphone app and enhancements to our homepage. We hope that you will take advantage of these features, and let us know how we can facilitate our goal of most effectively reaching the epilepsy research community. In the current print issue of Epilepsia (and always accessible online through our homepage (http://www.epilepsia.com), we’ve included the Journal’s current Instructions for Authors; we encourage prospective contributors to become familiar with these guidelines. You—our readers, authors, and reviewers—continue to be the backbone of the Journal. As in the past, we offer a small thank-you—the Frequent Reviewer Reward—to those who have assisted us with the difficult task of manuscript reviews on a regular basis (see Frequent Reviewers below).
