Resumo

Time response of free and momentarily localized exciton (FE and MLE) luminescences in red-HgI 2 has been measured at different temperatures. The behavior of the response is well explained by taking the exciton lifetime, the one-dimensional exciton diffusion and the luminescence re-absorption into account. It has been found that the lifetime is constant within each of FE and MLE energy regions but the values of them are different from each other. These results lead to the conclusion that FE or MLE is in thermal equilibrium within each system but a barrier exists between them. It has been also found that the diffusion coefficient of MLE is smaller than that of FE and that the relaxation of MLE is dominated by the deformation interaction with acoustical phonons.
