ResumoThree techniques for making agar films are compared, and two methods of estimating hyphal lengths are discussed. Hyphal length was less variable in agar films made using coverslip wells than those made using hemacytometers or micropipettes. Examples are given showing the use of variance estimates in optimizing experimental designs.
