ResumoAbstract Abstract Description of a section through the Vaginatum limestone (= approximately Asaphus + Gigas beds of Moberg 1890, upper part of the Lower Ordovician) exposed by excavation in the summer of 1947 at Vikarbyn in the Siljan area. The Estonian-Ingrian stratigraphic division of the Vaginatum limestone (Lamansky 1905) in the modified form, described by Bohlin (1919) from North öland, may largely be distinguished also in the Siljan area. The Lepidurus beds, however, seem to be missing in the section, the hiatus being marked by a distinct discontinuity surface at the base of the Vaginatum limestone. The Expansils, Raniceps, and Gigas beds of the Vaginatum limestone can be distinguished in the section, the Centaurus beds, however, could not be ascertained with certainty on account of the scarcity of macrofossils.
