ResumoAbstract The atypical spermatozoon of Scalidae (Gastropoda, Prosobranchia) has been studied under the optic and electron microscope in the male genital tract. This structure is made up of three distinct parts: an anterior lamina, a middle neck and a posterior long tail. The motile lamina is composed of a great number of axonemal structures among which very elongated mitochondria are interposed. After the neck region, which appears very branched, there is the long tail carrying the typical sperms. The significance and the function of atypical spermatozoa are discussed.
