Resumo

Experimental investigations have been carried out on the photo-association of 9-methyl anthracene molecules by measuring the quantum yield of photodimerization for solutions of given concentrations at different temperatures. In addition, the fluorescence spectra of the solutions were measured as a function of temperature and the lifetime of molecular fluorescence was measured at room temperature as a function of concentration. The analysis of the results on the basis of a kinetic scheme proposed by Birks indicates that the photodimer results from the interaction between an excited molecule and an unexcited molecule with an activation energy for photodimer formation of about 0.23 eV.
