Resumo

The history of medicine in Canada has often been neglected, particularly by social historians. Medicine in Canadian Society, a collection of essays on the history of disease and healing in Canada, helps to redress this situation. The book includes chapters on medicine among native peoples, women in medicine, public health, popular attitudes towards sexuality, frontier medicine, professional development, and more. The contributors to Medicine in Canadian Society are Margaret W. Andrews, Geoffrey Bilson, Michael Bliss, Robert S. Bothwell, Thomas E. Brown, Terry Copp, Janice P. Dickin McGinnis, John R. English, Robert Fortuine, Daniel Francis, Joseph F. Kett, Relief MacKay, Angus McLaren, Hilda Neatby, Arthur J. Ray, Charles G. Roland, S.E.D. Shortt, Veronica Strong Boag, Neil Sutherland, and Barbara R. Tunis.
