ResumoAbstractThis article looks at the increasing number of plays by black female authors and tries to give explanations for such a development. Against this background, individual plays are examined which deal with such diverse topics as migration, unplanned pregnancy, drug trafficking, black lesbianism, the black community, ‘black’ health and the Christian nativity story. In the light of the ubiquity of many of these themes, a move of black women's theatre from fringe to mainstream seems possible.
