Resumo

Abstract Joe Jackson and seven other White Sox were banned from major league baseball for throwing the 1919 World Series. This article examines the validity of Jackson's banishment with respect to his overall performance in the series. A hypothesis test of Jackson's clutch batting performance was performed by applying a resampling technique to Player Game Percentage, a statistic that measures a player's contribution to team victory. The test provides substantial support to Jackson's subsequent claims of innocence.
