Resumo

The liquid-solid phase transition of superfluid helium at zero temperature is studied in the framework of the density functional theory. The application of a second-order expansion of the energy of the system around the density of the liquid phase (Ramakrishnan-Yussouff method) is discussed. The role played by the static polarizability of the homogeneous liquid in characterizing the equation of state of the solid phase is explicitly pointed out.
