ResumoA score of cells in the basal zone of the papilla fungiformis of the frog's tongue form a typical rosette-like pattern. This peculiar cell type reacts positively with the fluorescence microscopic technique for serotonin and the PAS reaction. The basal cells are thought to play a role as receptors of touch during prey-catching.
