This paper intends to analyze three movies by Manoel de Oliveira: Non ou a vã glória de mandar (1990), Um filme falado (2003) and O quinto império – ontem como hoje (2004). The objective is to comprehend how this film maker retakes the Sebastianism’s myth to question Portugal’s position at contemporary social and political fields, in a national, european and worldwide scale. This way, we intend to think over the construction of a discourse that we suppose to be historically allegorical.
