We have recently seen at the University of Michigan Medical Center two patients with childhood dermatomyositis and inactive muscle disease but persistently active calcinosis universalis. Both were febrile. After studies to exclude infection or other causes of fever, these patients were treated with low doses of colchicine. Although colchicine had no effect on the size of the calcium deposits, the local and systemic inflammatory signs quickly subsided. In 1958 a 14-year old girl presented with dermatomyositis. Large doses of hydrocortisone gradually suppressed her disease. In 1961 soft...References1. SULLIVANCASSIDYPETTY DJR: Dermatomyositis in the pediatric patient.
