AbstractThis paper describes the improvement in the operational results obtained in the sintering unit of Usiminas' Steel Works, located at Ipatinga, one of the integrated steel plants in Brazil, after incorporation of intensified sifting feeder in the sintering circuit. Beneficial results came about after extensive investigations involving alterations to particle sizes of the feed material comprising of different types of iron ore, limestone, solid fuels and other additives such as serpentinite. The present work describes the methodology developed for sampling, including variations in the particle sizes of the feed mix, and their effect on the operational results of the sinter plant in respect of productivity and quality of sinter produced. The beneficial effect of serpentinite additions has been confirmed. Keywords: ISFSEGREGATIONIRON ORE SINTERING
