Resumo

The range of μ and τ neutrino masses accessible to large water Čerenkov detectors via the observation of neutrinos from galactic supernovae is discussed. We show that the available neutrino mass window from detecting late (t > 10 s) arrivals is ∼ 75 eV–200 keV. A shortage of early (t < 0.1 s) events may signal a mass as small as 30 eV, but it seems unlikely that any technique using galactic supernovae may be used for masses as low as 10 eV.
