ResumoBorn in Saint-Nazaire d'Acton, Quebec, Ernest Dufault is known to Americans by his alias—Will James. What did this willful change of identity mean for Dufault and for French Canadian culture within the larger context of North America? In his 1988 film, Alias Will James, the ironic Jacques Godbout has reviewed the myth of the western cowboy and writer and examined the connections between artist and impostor, between lies and truth.
