ResumoAbstract A survey of the leaf epidermises of five of the seven species of the family Medusandraceae which is endemic to West Africa, and economically important is presented. The results obtained show that only species, Medusandra richardsiana Brenan has pubescent leaf surfaces, while the other four: Soyauxia gabonensis Oliver, S. floribunda Hutchinson, S. glabrescens Engler and S. vetulina Hutchinson have glabrous leaf surfaces. Also, Medusandra richardsiana and Soyauxia floribunda have anomocytic subsidiary cells surrounding their stomata, while Soyauxia gabonensis, S. glabrescens and S. vetulina have paracytic subsidiary cells surrounding their stomata.
