Resumo

Interferons (IFNs) are cell-secreted protein factors which are not only involved in the defence against virus infections, but play a key role in the regulation of cell growth and differentiation. More than 10 cellular genes have now been identified as being specifically induced by IFNs and hence possible mediators of the complex biological action of IFNs. Transcription of several of these genes is activated within minutes following interaction of IFNs with their cell surface receptors.
