Resumo

The CK activity of the umbilical cord blood was determined in 34 normal fetuses and 1 fetus aborted from a known Duchenne carrier. The levels ranged from 20 to 995 IU/l in the normal fetuses, and the latter fetus, which may be affected with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, had a CK of 380 IU/l. We were unable to establish the cause of the wide variation of activity in the normals. Estimations of CK activity in serum from fetal cord blood are not likely to be useful in deciding whether or not a fetus has muscular dystrophy.
