ResumoIn this introduction to the special issue on Aleksei Kruchenykh (1886-1968) light is shed on his central role in Russian Futurism as provocateur, critic and theoretician. Russian Futurism is an autonomous movement in the development of Russian literature, different from the ideological avant-garde (Constructivism, LEF) of the 1920s. Kruchenykh's unique role in this movement and his influence on twentieth-century theory of art and literature is only lately being recognized.
