ResumoThe emeralds occur in a zone of intensely folded shale beds and intercalated thin calcite veins of the Villeta formation (Cretaceous). Mineralization is related to deep-seated igneous Tertiary intrusions. There may be some genetic relationship with salt beds and domes in the formation.
