Resumo

The in situ pyridoxine absorption by the intestines of rats receiving 525 r of total-body irradiation showed two deviations from the normal absorption pattern. A profound decrease in absorption was observed during the first postirradiation week, with the greatest decrease on day three, and a secondary decrease from the tenth to the seventeenth postirradiation day. Electron microscope studies indicate mitochondrial damage from irradiation. The possible mechanisms involved in these effects were discussed. (auth)
