Resumo

It has been shown that murine hepatitis virus (MHV3) can be propagated serially in liver explant cultures. Cultures were prepared from fetal C57B1/6 livers and cultivated on rat-tail reconstituted collagen. MHV3 virus caused cytopathic changes in such explants that are mainly in the epithelial outgrowth and macrophages. Virus has been carried for 22 passages and has been recovered by assaying the culture material in mice. Using this system, the sera from mice infected with the virus have been tested and high titers of CPE inhibitory activity were demonstrated.
