Resumo

Abstract The design, construction, and operation of a high-temperature, high-pressure EPR cavity is described. EPR spectra can be obtained at 500°C and 12.4 MPa using the water-cooled X-band cylindrical cavity. Spectra obtained on a high volatile bituminous coal sample at 450°C and 10.34 MPa are discussed. Although designed for the study of coal free radicals under liquefaction process conditions, the cavity described may be used for any high-temperature, high-pressure EPR applications.
